Forty years building companies at the edge of food, finance and technology.
Gary Thorneycroft is the Founder and CEO of Vita Hydrokultur Group, a UK-and-Sweden-based platform integrating plant biotechnology, vertical farming, and extraction and purification for commercial production. A Chartered Accountant since 1987, he has spent close to four decades in finance leadership across high-growth ventures in food technology, fintech, AIM-listed property and renewable energy.
He is best known in the vertical farming sector as the Co-Founder and former CFO of Jones Food Company, which he joined in 2017 to lead a £4.9M EIS fundraise with Guinness Asset Management. Two years later, he engineered Ocado’s £17M investment for a 70% stake — the defining institutional entry into European vertical farming and the moment that established the category’s commercial credibility.
Vita Hydrokultur, founded in 2020, extends that thesis at platform scale. The group brings together a shovel-ready R&D facility in Norwich and a commercial growing facility in Sweden, with SEIS and EIS Advance Assurance secured, an operating team in place, and third-party-validated investor materials including a seven-year financial plan.
